چکیده

Background A systematic review of core outcome sets (COS) identified 250 reports relating to 198 studies [1]. The review showed that a range of methods have been used, in a variety of ways, to develop core outcome sets. Furthermore, we found that of the 178 studies that described the methods they used to determine the core outcome set, 164 (92%) did not provide an explanation regarding their choice of methodology. To our knowledge, there is little guidance about how to conduct or report COS studies and it is currently uncertain which of these methods are the most suitable, feasible and efficient. It is important to investigate COS developers’ choice of approach as this is a new area of research, and in order to formulate guidance in this area we need to try and understand the current situation, including the influences of methodological choices being made.

Core Outcome Set-STAndards for Development: The COS-STAD recommendations

BACKGROUND The use of core outcome sets (COS) ensures that researchers measure and report those outcomes that are most likely to be relevant to users of their research. Several hundred COS projects have been systematically identified to date, but there has been no formal quality assessment of these studies. The Core Outcome Set-STAndards for Development (COS-STAD) project aimed to identify mini...

Survey indicated that core outcome set development is increasingly including patients, being conducted internationally and using Delphi surveys

BACKGROUND There are numerous challenges in including patients in a core outcome set (COS) study, these can vary depending on the patient group. This study describes current efforts to include patients in the development of COS, with the aim of identifying areas for further improvement and study. METHODS Using the COMET database, corresponding authors of COS projects registered or published f...

Core Outcome Sets in Miscarriage Trials (COSMisT) study: a study protocol

INTRODUCTION 'Core outcome sets' are an agreed, standardised set of outcomes based on what key stakeholders (clinicians, patients, their partners, researchers, service developers, funding organisations and so on) consider the important outcomes in the management or prevention of a condition. This paper describes the rationale and design for the development of Core Outcome Sets for Miscarriage T...

Impact of question order on prioritisation of outcomes in the development of a core outcome set: a randomised controlled trial

BACKGROUND Core outcome set (COS) developers increasingly employ Delphi surveys to elicit stakeholders' opinions of which outcomes to measure and report in trials of a particular condition or intervention. Research outside of Delphi surveys and COS development demonstrates that question order can affect response rates and lead to 'context effects', where prior questions determine an item's mean...

Developing core economic outcome sets for asthma studies: a protocol for a systematic review

INTRODUCTION Core outcome sets are standardised lists of outcomes, which should be measured and reported in all clinical studies of a specific condition. This study aims to develop core outcome sets for economic evaluations in asthma studies. Economic outcomes include items such as costs, resource use or quality-adjusted life years. The starting point in developing core outcome sets will be con...
